San Ignacio is in the heart of Viscaino BioSphere Reserve with many eco-tourist attractions close by. It is also where the transpeninsular highway crosses El Camino Real, (The Royal Road), which connects missions starting in Loreto and reaching into San Francisco. San Ignacio hosts one the most beautiful missions in Baja. Markets, restaurants, gasoline and accommodations are available in town.

Trips to San Ignacio lagoon, a grey whale nursery, where the whales have become know as the friendly whales on earth because of their friendly interactions with whale watchers can be arranged in town. Kuyima Ecotours, in town, runs sites and has guides in the lagoon for whale watching.

2014 Tecate Score Baja 1000
San Ignacio is located just less than the 750 mile mark on the Baja 1000 off road route. Motorcylces began the race early and will be passing near San Igancio in early morning hours. The 1000 plus mile race takes over 24 hours to complete. Trophy Trucks who started just after noon should be passing in the morning hours. From San Ignacio they will be taking the west coast south.
NORRA
May 11th bikes will complete leg 2 from El Rosario and stay overnight in San Ignacio. On May 12th they depart to Loreto. Out of Ensenada the 1000 mile race begins May 10th and ends in Cabo on May 14th.
Whale Watching
is a yearly activity in the Lagoon which is a grey whale nursery from December through April.
